Publications

I’ve written four books on the subject of digital video. After having contributed hundreds of articles on the subject to UK magazines, I was invited by Ilex Press to write my first title. I accepted – and it just went on from there.

Four of Colin's Books
Well, three of them are specifically about digital video actually; the fourth was co-authored by me and contains a large section on how to digitise and preserve analogue video recordings in the digital domain. That’s an area in which I have some expertise and I’d like to do more.

Starting with the most recent title, the books are:

Collins GEM Digital Video (Harper Collins, 2007)
Collins Need To Know? Digital Video (Harper Collins, 2006)
Go Digital! Keep The Past Alive! (Taschen/Evergreen, 2006)
Digital Video for Beginners (Ilex Press, 2005)

What I found encouraging is that the publishers contacted me rather than me chasing them for a deal. Ilex Press came to me initially, with the result that Digital Video for Beginners was put together in less than four months (and published in six languages). Almost immediately afterwards, Harper Collins asked me to contribute a title to their popular Need to Know? series – which resulted in not only the main paperback but also a Collins Gem pocket-sized reference as well.

The third title in the list was for Taschen and deals with a subject that’s very close to my heart – how to bring life’s analogue artefacts into the digital domain. I co-authored this for Ilex Press (as contract production company) and the results are fabulous.

Never say never again

It’s been a while since I shut myself away and wrote 30,000 words and organised 300-400 images. I did say “never again” but that’s just silly….
